The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence required for an individual to work unsupervised as a personal trainer. This includes being able to offer one-to-one training, baseline assessment, nutritional advice and progressive programming which is specific to the individual needs of a client. These courses will provide essential knowledge and skills, which in turn provides the confidence to specialise in dealing with a wide variety of people with special conditions. You will be able to specialise in these areas.

Learners are encouraged to be responsible for their own learning and fully participate throughout all aspects of the course. A course timetable will be posted to you once your enrolment has been completed, before the start of the course.

A pre-requisite for all of the above courses is that you have experience participating within the gym and/or studio environment.

Learners are required to bring pens and paper for all theory sessions, along with appropriate exercise clothing and footwear for practical sessions. It is also suggested that all students have a change of clothing for their own comfort and hygiene.
You can study this course over a length of time that is suitable to you. It can be done as quickly as a few weeks/months, or a year – depending on how much time you have to study and your knowledge to date.

Everest Fitness Education will ensure there is an expert tutor available (times to be agreed) on a weekly basis and you will be assigned a study coach to guide and assist you through the qualification.
L3 Personal Trainer Certificate
Learners will cover:
Mandatory Units

  • anatomy and physiology including:
    - the heart and circulatory system
    - musculoskeletal system
    - postural and core stability
    - the nervous and energy systems and their relation to exercise and health
  • how to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
  • how to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients, the health benefits of physical activity and the importance of healthy eating
  • how to communicate with clients effectively, and motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme
  • how to apply the principles of nutrition to support client goals as part of an exercise and physical activity programme
  • how to design, manage, and adapt a personal training programme with apparently healthy adults of all ages
  • how to deliver exercise and physical activity as part of a programme for apparently healthy adults of all ages
This requires you to attend two theory days and three practical days. You will need to complete this part of this course before continuing on to the other units which are listed below (these can be completed in any order).
L3 Diploma in Exercise Referral
Knowledge and understanding relating to the qualification
  • the heart, circulatory system, musculoskeletal system, nervous system, endocrine system, and energy systems and their relation to exercise and health. Posture and core stability.
  • how to collect and use information relating to nutrition.
  • the relationship between nutrition and physical activity, the principles and guidelines relating to nutrition and nutritional goal setting with clients, and the nationally recommended practice to provide nutritional advice
  • the principles of collecting information to plan an exercise referral programme, the principles of risk stratification in exercise referral and the principles and procedures of record keeping
  • how to identify goals with exercise referral patients and instruct, adapt, and review exercise session with these patients. How to plan, prepare, monitor and adapt an exercise referral programme with patients and understand the importance of long term behaviour change for these patients
  • the current healthcare systems in the UK, the exercise referral process, the roles and responsibilities of the professional within an exercise referral scheme and the role and importance of exercise referral, related policies and key documents
  • the concept of a patient centred approach
  • the clinical features of medical conditions relevant to exercise referral programmes, the relationship between exercise and specified exercise referral medical conditions, the accepted methods for treatment/management of medical conditions relevant to exercise referral programmes and how to programme safe, effective exercise programmes for patients with specified exercise referral medical conditions
You will need to attend a five day course and complete a series of work sheets, exams and practical assessments successfully to complete this qualification.
L3 Award in Adapting Exercise for Independently Active, Older People
Knowledge and understanding relating to the qualification
  • recognise who ‘independently active, older people’ are in the population
  • the ageing process and demographics
  • the effects of ageing and inactivity on body systems, cognitive function/performance, psychological/emotional/social function and wellbeing
  • the special considerations that must be taken into account when programming and delivering exercise for independently active, older people and the benefits of physical activity and exercise to them
  • how to support and motivate the independently active, older adult in exercise and promote exercise for this section of the population
  • the impact of ageing on the planning and delivery of safe exercise for independently active, older people
  • the components of a pre-exercise consultation with independently active, older people
  • how to plan and adapt exercise, and adapt session instruction, for independently active older people
You will be required to complete a two day course and complete worksheets, an exam and a practical assessment to successfully complete this qualification.
L3 Award in Adapting Exercise for Ante Natal and Post Natal Clients
Knowledge and understanding relating to the qualification
  • the physical changes which take place during the ante and post natal periods
  • the benefits of exercise/physical activity for ante and post natal women
  • how to support ante and post natal clients in exercise
  • the contra-indications to exercise for ante and post natal clients
  • how to manage risks in ante and post natal exercise sessions
  • the nutritional requirements for the ante and post natal period
  • the principles of collecting information to plan an exercise programme for ante and post natal clients
  • how to screen ante and post natal clients prior to planning an exercise programme
  • how to plan an exercise programme for ante and post natal clients
You will be required to complete a two day course and complete worksheets, an exam and a practical assessment to successfully complete this qualification.

    Yes, you will need to hold your Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing - Gym-Based Exercise (or equivalent) before beginning this qualification.
  • What qualifications will I get?[+]
    You will become a Master Personal Trainer specialising in Special Populations and gain the
    CYQ Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training
    CYQ Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral
    CYQ Level 3 Award in Adapting Exercise for the Older Person
    CYQ Level 3 Award in Adapting Exercise for the Ante/Post Natal Client.
    They are nationally recognised qualification and carry a total of 80 REPS points and allows entry to the Register of Exercise Professionals at Level 3.
  • What are the Individual learning needs?[+]
    Learners are requested to identify any individual learning needs, medical conditions and/or injuries that may affect learning or the assessment process, on the application form or directly to the tutor.

    Your tutor and assessor will be able to advise you on the specific requirements of the course and related assessment. In some instances it may be possible to apply a ‘Reasonable Assessment Adjustment’ to take into account a specific learning need. Please discuss this with your course tutor during registration to ensure you are fully supported during the course and assessment. The course timetable will also clearly identify learner guidance and support time when your tutor will be available to answer specific queries or clarify areas that are unclear.

    It is important that learners are aware that the course will involve some home study/work at the end of each day. This may involve some written work or practice of practical teaching skills and exercise technique.
