The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence required for an individual to work unsupervised as a personal trainer. This includes being able to offer one-to-one training, baseline assessment, nutritional advice and progressive programming which is specific to the individual needs of a client. You will also be able to specialise in group exercise, able to teach a wide variety of classes in a studio environment. These courses will give you a comprehensive knowledge and experience to teach in the gym and the studio

Learners are encouraged to be responsible for their own learning and fully participate throughout all aspects of the course. A course timetable will be posted to you once your enrolment has been completed, before the start of the course.

A pre-requisite for all of the above courses is that you have experience participating within the gym and/or studio environment.

Learners are required to bring pens and paper for all theory sessions, along with appropriate exercise clothing and footwear for practical sessions. It is also suggested that all students have a change of clothing for their own comfort and hygiene.
You can study this course over a length of time that is suitable to you. It can be done as quickly as a few weeks/months, or a year – depending on how much time you have to study and your knowledge to date.

Everest Fitness Education will ensure there is an expert tutor available (times to be agreed) on a weekly basis and you will be assigned a study coach to guide and assist you through the qualification.
L3 Personal Trainer Certificate
Learners will cover:
Mandatory Units

  • anatomy and physiology including:
    - the heart and circulatory system
    - musculoskeletal system
    - postural and core stability
    - the nervous and energy systems and their relation to exercise and health
  • how to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
  • how to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients, the health benefits of physical activity and the importance of healthy eating
  • how to communicate with clients effectively, and motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme
  • how to apply the principles of nutrition to support client goals as part of an exercise and physical activity programme
  • how to design, manage, and adapt a personal training programme with apparently healthy adults of all ages
  • how to deliver exercise and physical activity as part of a programme for apparently healthy adults of all ages
This requires you to attend two theory days and three practical days. You will need to complete this part of this course before continuing on to the other units which are listed below (these can be completed in any order).
Level 2 Exercise to Music
Knowledge and understanding relating to the qualification
  • anatomy and physiology including:
    - the heart and circulatory system
    - the respiratory system
    - structure and function of the skeleton
    - musculoskeletal system
    - postural and core stability
    - the nervous and energy systems and their relation to exercise
  • how to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
  • how to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients, the health benefits of physical activity and the importance of healthy eating
  • how to communicate with clients effectively, and motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme
  • the skills and knowledge required to plan and prepare a group exercise to music session with apparently healthy adults - both individuals and groups. This may include young people in the 14-16 age range, provided they are part of a larger adult group. Client groups also covered are older adults, ante and postnatal clients and disabled clients provided the relevant contraindications and key safety guidelines are observed.
Level 2 Indoor Cycling Instructor
Knowledge and understanding relating to the qualification
  • the benefits of group indoor cycling
  • health and safety in relation to group indoor cycling
  • how to design and teach safe and effective group indoor cycling sessions
  • the principles and variables used within a group indoor cycling session
  • how to monitor and motivate participants during group indoor cycling sessions
  • how to use music during group indoor cycling sessions
  • how to reflect on providing group indoor cycling
This is a two day course which includes practical assessments throughout the course.
Level 3 Award in Instructing Outdoor Fitness
Knowledge and understanding relating to the qualification
  • the considerations involved in working with groups in outdoor environments
  • planning a range of exercises relevant to groups of participants outdoors, using body weight, environment, and small equipment
  • planning appropriate exercise sessions, taking into account the opportunities and limitations presented by the environment
  • instructing safe and effective group exercise sessions in outdoor environments
You are required to attend a one day course. You are required to complete a practical assessment, which must be planned fully in preparation.
Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Pilates
Knowledge and understanding relating to the qualification
  • a recap of digestive biology, structure and function.

  • how to programme a Pilates teaching session 
  • how to deliver a Pilates teaching Session
You are required to attend a four day course, which is a mix of theory and practical work. You are required to complete a variety of assessments including a case study, theory exam and work sheets.

    Yes, you will need to hold your Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing - Gym-Based Exercise (or equivalent) before beginning this qualification.
  • What qualifications will I get?[+]
    You will become a Master Personal Trainer specialising in Group Exercise and gain;

    CYQ Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training
    CYQ Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Pilates
    CYQ Level 3 Award in Instructing Outdoor Fitness
    CYQ Level 2 Certificate in Exercise to Music
    CYQ Level 2 Award in Instructing Group Indoor Cycling Sessions

    They are nationally recognised qualifications and carry a total of 92 REPS points and allows entry to the Register of Exercise Professionals at Level 3.
  • What are the Individual learning needs?[+]
    Learners are requested to identify any individual learning needs, medical conditions and/or injuries that may affect learning or the assessment process, on the application form or directly to the tutor.

    Your tutor and assessor will be able to advise you on the specific requirements of the course and related assessment. In some instances it may be possible to apply a ‘Reasonable Assessment Adjustment’ to take into account a specific learning need. Please discuss this with your course tutor during registration to ensure you are fully supported during the course and assessment. The course timetable will also clearly identify learner guidance and support time when your tutor will be available to answer specific queries or clarify areas that are unclear.

    It is important that learners are aware that the course will involve some home study/work at the end of each day. This may involve some written work or practice of practical teaching skills and exercise technique.

    The course is assessed through a combination of multiple choice theory exams, worksheets and observations of practical skills.
