CYQ Level 2 Award in Instructing Group Indoor Cycling Sessions

This qualification is aimed at the learner who wants to teach group indoor cycling sessions in the health and fitness industry, as part of a group exercise programme.

Learners are encouraged to be responsible for their own learning and fully participate throughout all aspects of the course. A course timetable will be posted to you once your enrolment has been completed, before the start of the course.

A pre-requisite for all of the above courses is that you have experience participating within the gym and/or studio environment.

Learners are required to bring pens and paper for all theory sessions, along with appropriate exercise clothing and footwear for practical sessions. It is also suggested that all students have a change of clothing for their own comfort and hygiene.
This course requires no home study before the course. Your assessments take place throughout the 1 day of the course. You are also encouraged to attend as many group indoor cycling sessions as you can before the course starts.

During the course, you will participate in indoor cycling sessions, and teach components of the session with advice and guidance from the tutor. You will be required to plan each component of the session and be observed teaching them to the required level. There will be some study to do at home, but you will be provided with study materials to work from.

Everest Fitness Education will ensure there is an expert tutor available (times to be agreed) on a weekly basis and you will be assigned a study coach to guide and assist you through the qualification.
Learners will cover:
  • the benefits of group indoor cycling
  • health and safety in relation to group indoor cycling
  • how to design and teach safe and effective group indoor cycling sessions
  • the principles and variables used within a group indoor cycling session
  • how to monitor and motivate participants during group indoor cycling sessions
  • how to use music during group indoor cycling sessions
  • how to reflect on providing group indoor cycling

Do you have any questions?

  • Are there any entry requirements?[+]
Yes, you will need to hold your L2 Gym or Exercise to Music qualifications before beginning this qualification. If this is a problem, please call on 07870 638334 or email clare for more details.
  • What qualifications will I get?[+]
You will gain the CYQ Level 2 Award in Instructing Group Indoor Cycling Sessions. Alone it will not gain you access onto the Register of Exercise Professionals, however it does count towards your Continued Professional Development (CPD) as it carries 16 REPS points.
  • What are the Individual learning needs?[+]
Learners are requested to identify any individual learning needs, medical conditions and/or injuries that may affect learning or the assessment process, on the application form or directly to the tutor.

Your tutor and assessor will be able to advise you on the specific requirements of the course and related assessment. In some instances it may be possible to apply a ‘Reasonable Assessment Adjustment’ to take into account a specific learning need. Please discuss this with your course tutor during registration to ensure you are fully supported during the course and assessment. The course timetable will also clearly identify learner guidance and support time when your tutor will be available to answer specific queries or clarify areas that are unclear.

It is important that learners are aware that the course will involve some home study/work at the end of each day. This may involve some written work or practice of practical teaching skills and exercise technique.
  • How will I be Assessed?[+]
You will need to produce a session overview and appropriate notes/class plans for a safe and effective indoor group cycling session of 30-45 minutes, which is appropriate for the specific target group of apparently healthy adults.

You will be assessed throughout the course via Continuous Assessment showing verbal screening, the warm up, main component and cool down components. Continuous assessments are ongoing throughout the course to obtain a result which will count towards your overall result. You will be required to teach a minimum of 6 participants who are aged 16 years or over.

If you need to be re-assessed in any of the components, this can be completed through discussion with your tutor/assessor.
  • How much will I pay for the course?[+]
    The course is £125.00
