  • How will I be Assessed?[+]
The course is assessed through a combination of multiple choice theory exams, worksheets and observations of practical skills. You will create a portfolio of evidence throughout the course.
Assessment 1 requires you to complete a worksheet on ‘Professional Practice for Exercise Referral Instructors’. This will be completed as part of your course work.
For assessment 2&3 you will also need to complete closed book assessments for ‘Understanding Medical Conditions for Exercise Referral’ and ‘Planning Exercise Referral Programmes with patients’. These come in the form of five tables for each unit, more details of which will be discussed during your course. For assessment 4 you need to complete a worksheet based on planning exercise programme for patients. Assessment 5 requires you to complete a consultation with an exercise referral patient during which time you should gain sufficient information to complete a patient profile, offer advice and agree an appropriate exercise/activity programme with them. Following the consultation (Assessment 6) you will need to write an exercise plan that lasts for 4 weeks and includes outcome measure, stages of achievement and exercises/physical activities which includes all appropriate components of fitness and principals of training. Assessment 7 is where you will need to review the programme with your client after 4 weeks (if hypothetical then this can be discussed on your course). You will need to write a letter to a healthcare professional (Assessment 8) outlining your patient’s progress in meeting the goals.

You must then write a session plan (Assessment 9) for a patient who has 2 of the referral conditions using your own area of expertise (Circuits, Gym, Exercise to Music etc). You must then use the planned session to instruct their patient through the session (Assessment 10), which is followed by a patient feedback session. Finally a worksheet needs to be completed (Assessment 11).
