CYQ Award in Adapting Exercise for Independently Active, Older People
This qualification provides learners to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence required in order to work with Independently Active Older People in an unsupervised manner. There will be focus on the considerations for safe and effective exercise and how to plan and adapt exercise for these particular clients.
Learners are encouraged to be responsible for their own learning and fully participate throughout all aspects of the course. A course timetable will be posted to you once your enrolment has been completed, before the start of the course.
A pre-requisite for all of the above courses is that you have experience participating within the gym and/or studio environment.
Learners are required to bring pens and paper for all theory sessions, along with appropriate exercise clothing and footwear for practical sessions. It is also suggested that all students have a change of clothing for their own comfort and hygiene.
The course is a two day course, which requires understanding of theory knowledge and practical application. There will be some study to do at home, but you will be provided with study materials to work from.
Everest Fitness Education will ensure there is an expert tutor available (times to be agreed) on a weekly basis and you will be assigned a study coach to guide and assist you through the qualification.
Learners will cover: Mandatory Units
recognise who ‘independently active, older people’ are in the population
the ageing process and demographics
the effects of ageing and inactivity on body systems, cognitive function/performance, psychological/emotional/social function and wellbeing
the special considerations that must be taken into account when programming and delivering exercise for independently active, older people and the benefits of physical activity and exercise to them
how to support and motivate the independently active, older adult in exercise and promote exercise for this section of the population
the impact of ageing on the planning and delivery of safe exercise for independently active, older people
the components of a pre-exercise consultation with independently active, older people
how to plan and adapt exercise, and adapt session instruction, for independently active older people
